End Of My Youth: Turning 30
Kickball

So I started playing on an adult league kickball team in May. It was fun, but I really didn’t know anyone on the team and we were horrible. We lost all of our games. So this time around, I got a bunch of people I know together to play on my team. So the team is me, Bridget, Uncle Ant, Aunt Katie, Vin, Court, Aunt Ilissa, Anthony P, Melanie, Becca, John, Sam, Mark, and James L. We had our first game last night (our team name is Saucy Balls after the contestant on the Next Great American Restaurant). It was a great time. We lost 6-5 and there were several bad calls made by the ump. Uncle Ant took the L hard and is still steaming about it a day later. All in all it was a great time and I am looking forward to our game next week. So overall I am 0-7 in kickball now…. hopefully next week we can get our first win!!

Connor is doing great as always. He is now yelling things like “dadadadada” over and over. I think it is because he knows my first father’s day is Sunday. The coolest thing is if you look t Connor and ask “Where’s dada?” He looks right at me or looks around the room to find me. He is so amazing. He is always smiling when he sees me and mommy as well as his aunts, uncles and grandparents. In fact, he smiles at everyone! He has learned to squirm forward and at times on the changing table can use his legs to attempt to throw him self off. He is too funny and full of energy. I feel like I get him and he gets me. Like when he needs to nap and is smiling I give him a kiss and say, ok it’s time to nap. 5 minutes later he is out…. I just love him so much.  He started eating baby food (peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, pears) mixed with his baby cereal and loves it. His 6 month check up was yesterday and he is in the 85th percentile for height! Live it up now son, because you are destined to come back down to earth with me and mommy!
OK well that’s it for now. Be back in a week… or so.

2 Month Delay

Wow! It’s been 2 months since my last post. We have really settled in here and I have truly forgotten all about writing. Connor is doing wonderfully! He is almost 6 months now! Just crazy how fast the time goes. Mommy is now Dr. Mommy as she graduated with her OTD on Saturday of last week. The world didn’t end on 5/21/11 even though it was predicted by some crazy man to do so. Work has been great. Full time and part time work are both very busy.

Things are pretty much moving at light speed. Days blur together. Get up, feed Connor, go to work, come home, eat dinner, help get Connor ready for bed, read, go to bed, repeat. I wake up sometime between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM with Connor and next thing I know, it’s 11:00 PM at night!

So Connor now sits up regularly, jumps like a mad man in his jumper, makes some funny screeching noises and as recently as today, began this new pretend spitting thing. He did it and I did it back and apparently this was the funniest thing in the world as he laughed so hard at it. Oh yeah, I can get Connor to laugh hysterically if I pretend to eat his ribs. I know, only a parent would understand.

My favorite moments so far have been all the laughs. Sometimes its at bad times, like when we are trying to get him to sleep and as soon as he sees my face, he just starts laughing and wanting to play. Or the other day, when Bridget put him in bed to wake me up (one of the days I slept in).  I rolled over and he looked at me and just started laughing. It was awesome! Well I hope that catches us all up. Talk to you soon…. or in 3 months. :)

Connor understands his Daddy! This was truly an amazing feeling to have him repeat what I said!

He Giggled!

Busy week again as usual.Connor visited both Mommy’s and Daddy’s work this week. He got to meet all of our coworkers. I wasn’t at Mommy’s work, but she said it went great. My coworkers absolutely adored him! Some of them follow this blog, so “Hi guys!”

Connor spent last night at Grandma and Grandpa’s house last night. I have to say, Bridget and I both felt like we hadn’t slept that as well as we did last night in months. Bridget went back to her part time job today, so we figured it was probably a good idea to have him stay over at one of our parent’s houses so we could get some good sleep. Later today we picked him up and went to dinner at an Irish restaurant with Bridget’s family.

So when we got back from dinner, Connor and I player our little mirror game again as usual and Mommy watched. Then all of a sudden after seeing my face, came the cutest little giggle in the world! God it was such an awesome moment! Of course we spent the next hour trying to recreate it to no avail. That’s ok, he did it once and I am sure he will do it again! What a great day!

He Recognizes Us!

Yay! It’s so amazing, but over the last couple of days he has truly began to recognize who Bridget and I are. Every morning when we go to get him up, who ever gets there first gets the biggest smile ever! And there are times when he is just hanging out and sees Bridget or I and just smiles so big. Whenever I come home from work, I now and greeted with a huge smile!

We started playing this game where I hold Connor next to my head and we look in the mirror together. As soon as he recognizes my face, he just starts smiling and cooing like crazy! He has no idea who the baby I am holding is, but he definitely recognizes me.

He is trying very hard to learn to laugh. He can get a “Ha” in before he starts cooing. Any day now he should be giggling away! We can’t wait! I love him so much. I’m kinda getting used to him being this size and want this to stay forever, but I know that won’t happen. So I am trying to enjoy the moments we have together now in the early morning and when I get home from work. I never thought it was possible to love someone other than Bridget this much!

5 AM

I don’t know what happened today, but Connor decided to get up at 5:00 AM instead of his normal 6:00 AM. The little man has a cold and has had it for about a week, but this is the first time that he got up at 5:00 for a long time. I felt bad cause Bridget is feeling sick too, so I got up with him. Work is going to be tough on less sleep but I only have to work until 3:00 PM today.

Of course it wasn’t easy this morning. He was screaming pretty loud, and it feels like forever when you are trying to heat a bottle and then give it to him. Best part was after finally getting him fed, I burped him and he spit up all over my pajamas…

So now he is reswaddled and in his swing. I put on sportscenter and he didn’t fall asleep until right now. Kind of funny how he waited until after the top 10 plays of the night before falling asleep again. Yeah, that’s definitely something I have done before. Well I guess I’m up now. Hopefully he has a better rest of his day. I love him so much!

a”poop”calypse

Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnnd I’m back! It’s been too long. Got in the routine of work, home with fam, up early with Connor… All that adds up to forgetting all about this whole plan to journal lots of things through this blog. So here is an update on one of the most interesting experiences in a while.

So Connor has been sleeping until about 7 every morning (goes to bed around 11ish, so that is amazing!!). Today he got up at 6:45, but when he gets up know he is laughing and cooing, not crying. I got his bottle ready and walked into his room and when he hears me, he turns his head to see who it is. Every morning, when he sees me, he just smiles so big. I totally love it!

So we go about our routine, and I am feeding him when I hear a little fart. I think it’s no big deal, especially since over the last couple days he has this pattern of going almost 2 days between poops (don’t worry this is normal for a baby of his age). Then it happens, like an explosion of a bubbly mess. I run with him to the changing table, and it’s too late. He loves the changing table and always squirms around on it and now is doing it again. There is poop everywhere! Up his back, in his outfit, being flung by his little legs at me, in my nose, on my clothes… AHHHHHHHHH! I take his outfit off, and take his diaper off, and take a naked poop covered baby to the bathroom to clean in the sink. On the way there, what do you think happens? He pees all over me! I call for Bridget who comes into the bathroom laughing stating “Now you know what I meant when I said this happened the other day.”

I cleaned him in the sink, Bridget got a towel and took Connor. I then had to clean his outfit and the cloth diapers (don’t worry, he was wearing a real diaper, the cloth ones are for cleaning messes…. like this one). One may ask, how do you clean poop off of these garments? IN THE TOILET OF COURSE!!! It was so nasty to scrub poop off his outfit with my hands in the toilet… I stain sticked everything and threw it in the washing machine along with my urine soaked shirt. All in all, looking back now it’s pretty funny, but at the time it was actually kind of scary. Who knew such a little man could do so much poop?

The best part of the day, after I feed him we play every morning. We do tummy time and play around on the couch, then I reswaddle him and he goes to bed until about 9ish. So I bring him back to his crib, swaddle him and he looks right at me. You ever have one of those moments where you look at someone, and you both just get that big smile and start laughing? You don’t know why, but you know it’s great and you just start laughing. The kind of smile you have with your best friend when you are a kid and no one else understands…

Well Connor and I had that kind of moment! We both just looked at each other and got the biggest smiles ever. I laughed, he laughed. It was awesome and memorable! It makes you feel so loved! God I am a lucky guy!

So now Grandma came to visit him and Bridget, Connor and her mom are all hanging out in the living room. I’m hanging out watching Carmelo Anthony’s debut. Kinda cool! OK, I promise to post more going forward….

Good Night’s Sleep

Wow, it is getting harder and harder to write in this blog. I keep forgetting and I’m just so tired when I get home from work that all I want to do is spend time with the little man and my wife.

Last night, Connor went to bed around 11:30ish. I woke up on my own around 7:30 AM and when I sat up Bridget said “He slept until 6:30, he doesn’t need to be fed until 9:30.” WOW!!! Hopefully this wasn’t a fluke and he does this again tonight!

Where have the days gone?

So it’s been a while, sorry to all my wonderful followers for the delay. Things are going good. It’s amazing how things you plan on doing go out the window in order to care for your son. I had plans to write every day, but spending time with him took all my time. And to be honest, nothing else really matters.

We are getting better every day with things. Connor is eating 4 oz every feeding now and is starting to space the feedings out to about 2 and half hours. He also sleeps in a 4 hour and 3 hour clip at night.

Today it snowed again. I spun out 3 times on the way to work, and decided to turn around and came home. I was very happy to get to spend the day with Connor. Well that’s it for now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
So New Year’s Eve went great. Uncle Anthony and Aunt Katie came over. Pizza and appetizers for dinner and of course the tradition that Aunt Katie and Uncle Anthony started last year, ice cream sundaes!!! Connor was great the whole time and all the adults even got in a couple of games of NBA JAM (yes, Uncle Anthony and I talked the wives into playing a couple of 4 player games). We watched Dick Clark rock in the New Years then off to bed. Despite staying up very late, Connor slept great.
Today was a fun day too. Bridget’s friend from college, Susie, came over with her fiance John today. They were very excited to see Connor and we all had a good time together. Connor even slept while we all ate our Smashburgers for lunch. Tonight Nonna and Grandpa came over and spent some time holding, feeding and changing their little man. Overall good day. Gonna do an 11:00ish feeding then hopefully get some sleep.
