Highlights from Day 1 of road trip:
When asked what he thought about Pennsylvania, Connor responded with a huge poopy diaper. (Yes, I did just write poopy. When you are a new dad you can say things like that.)
When I woke up with Mommy and Grandma at 2:30 AM, they told me my eyes were all red and I needed to sleep. Turns out they were so irritated from waking up late in the night that my eyes seem to have taken on a permanent blood shot color. I did find a way to turn this into an advantage. At our hotel they offer complimentary breakfast, but they have “breakfast police” hanging down there to prevent you from taking “too much.” Well Grandma was in the room with Connor and I decided we needed breakfast. I went down and loaded up a plate with two Jimmy Dean bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, 3 muffins and an orange juice. I was so quick the breakfast police didn’t see me, but some lady gave me a nasty look. One look back at her through my bloodshot eyes and her face went from disgust to terror and she quickly walked away! Take that!!
Connor started fussing at 4:00 AM. I wanted Bridget to sleep so she felt rested for class and I wanted Grandma to sleep so she could watch Connor today when I fall asleep in the middle of the day, so I picked him up and calmed him down. All was going well, I got him changed into a new outfit and changed his diaper, we were having fun as I held him and gave him his “nook.” Then of course, I try to put him down, and he starts fussing again. I pick him back up and decide, “I’ll watch TV while I hold him. They have the NFL network here.” Well we got a “suite” so there would be a separate area for when he cries. I take him to there and turn on the TV. Well to my surprise, that TV went on and so did the TV in the room Bridget and Grandma were sleeping. And it didn’t just go on, it went on full blast with volume!
Do you have any idea what it’s like to run through a semi-lit hotel room with a newborn in your arms trying to find a black remote control to turn off a TV? There should be an award for this. I was like Cam Newton running for the Heisman Trophy. (Sorry for the poor reference, but the presentation is on tonight at 8:00 and if Newton does not win, it will just add to my reasons for boycotting college football… but I digress). I was somehow able to get both TV’s off without waking anyone up, including Connor who was pretty comfortable in my arms. At 5:45, he just decided he needed to eat and Mommy took care of him. She got up to get ready for class at 7:00 and I fell asleep until about 9:30…
And so here we are today. Grandma, Connor and I hanging out in the hotel all day. I am looking forward to the help and plan to sleep a lot. I am sure there will be some updates throughout the day.
